The procedure is safe one. Minor discomfort or pain during or after treatment is expected. Other less common side effects include minor skin bruising, reddening, or swelling of the treated area.

Shockwave is unsuitable in the following circumstances:

  • Skin infection or abrasion at the treatment site

  • If you have received a Steroid injection within 6 weeks

  • Pregnancy

  • Blood clotting disorders including taking anti-coagulant medications e.g.

    Warfarin

  • If you have a Pacemaker fitted

  • Under 18 years (except in the treatment of Osgood-Schlatter disease)
